Hands-on backflow training designed to help you pass the certification exam.
The American Backflow Academy provides a comprehensive 40-hour training program combining classroom instruction with hands-on practice to prepare students for the AWWA or ABPA Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification Exams. Our course is based on the University of Southern California (USC) testing procedures and the 10th Edition USC Foundation for Cross-Connection Control and Hydraulic Research manual. Students gain a clear understanding of backflow principles, device operation, and proper field testing techniques through real-world training designed to help them confidently pass their certification exam and begin performing backflow testing in the field.
Backflow testing is required every year in California by water purveyors and local health departments for commercial properties, HOAs, and many residential systems. This creates consistent demand for certified backflow testers and strong income potential.
Whether you’re a plumber, maintenance technician, fire prevention specialist, irrigation or swimming pool professional, or starting a new career, backflow certification is one of the fastest ways to enter a skilled trade and start performing backflow prevention testing professionally.
At The American Backflow Academy, we don’t just teach theory — we train you to perform in the real world.
Our instructors are certified Backflow Prevention Assembly Testers (BPATs) with hands-on experience in testing, troubleshooting, and repairs. We prepare you for both the exam and the field.
